November 10th, 2020
Good Evening Parents, Guardians, and Students,
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the effort that you have put into Quarter
Two so far. We have Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences next week, November 18-20th, and
we need every parent to participate in these conferences. We will be sharing information that is
vital to the success of your child.
This morning we saw the number of COVID cases in the 85033 continue to increase. With the
rising number of COVID cases continuing to push back a possible start date for hybrid learning
we have reached a point where, even if we met the benchmarks for hybrid learning in the weeks
to come, we would not have enough time to fully transition our staff, students, and our systems.
Western School of Science and Technology will remain in Online Learning through the
end of Quarter Two. We will continue to monitor the benchmarks put out by Maricopa County,
and as always, put the safety of our families, students, and staff members at the forefront of our
decision making.
Although none of us know for sure what will happen with the number of COVID cases in the
upcoming months.
I would like to prepare our families for the likely scenario that we will also
spend much, and possibly all, of Quarter Three in Online Learning. We know that many people
are traveling for the upcoming holiday season, and we ask you all to be safe and follow the
recommendations of the CDC during the upcoming months.
A few other announcements:
Zoom classes on Monday and Tuesday are mandatory for all students. All students must also
log in and complete work on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Many students are now
being marked absent on the asynchronous days because they are not logging into their
computer or completing assignments.
We are still offering on-site tutoring and help for students Monday- Friday. Please call the office
623-249-3900 to sign your student up for this help. If your child is not completing their
assignments or is failing any of their classes we would like them to start coming to
campus ASAP to complete their work.
Stay safe and healthy.
Best,
Jessica Makowske
School Director
